Omnicom rebranding coverage from the York Press
SOFTWARE and systems engineering company Omnicom Engineering is targeting international markets as the business enters a new era.
The business, which employs 40 people at its office in Tadcaster Road, develops systems which lower costs for organisations in the transport and infrastructure sector. It uses video technology to create a visual and accurate model of highways or railway infrastructure, which companies can access from their computers.
For example, the technology allows developers to get a remote view of motorways for planning a development. Even the emergency services have used it to get the lie of the land when access to an accident is blocked. Local authorities can also use the system to track and change street lighting or potholes, rather than people having to go on site to take measurements.
The business, whose products are used by Network Rail, now hopes it can export its systems to other infrastructure providers around the world, such as French and German railway providers SNCF and Deutsche Bahn.
Stirling Kimkeran, chief executive, said: “We have largely relied on an excellent reputation amongst an existing client base in the UK and there is no reason why clients overseas cannot realise the same savings.”
He said the business also hoped to capitalise on significant UK opportunities such as High Speed Two and the proposed Northern Hub rail network, which could see up to 700 more trains linking the major cities of the north, devolved railways and the increasing pressure on local councils to find cost savings.
The Lord Mayor of York, Coun David Horton, The Sheriff of York, Alan Deller, and Coun James Alexander, leader of City of York Council, unveiled the company’s new sign, developed in conjunction with Hull-based marketing company Fred, yesterday.
The Lord Mayor and Sheriff both used to work for British Rail.
Stirling said: “It is nice for them to see new technology a York-based company is providing into the industry today.”
Coun Alexander said: “We are very supportive and welcome any new investment that will have a positive impact on our economy and lay the foundations for the future prosperity of York.”
